DEWEY SQUARE

DEWEY SQUARE
The program is for a new cultural center. The site is located on Dewey Square Park on the Greenway in Boston. The park is right above I-93 highway that runs underground throughout the downtown area. Site analysis diagrams are based off perceptual observations of three layered urban characteristics, green space/planting, car traffic, and pedestrian traffic. The design process was oriented around the connection between layers both physically and exponentially. The car ramps that connect the two layers of above ground, and below ground provided a physical element from the site that was then abstracted both physically, and exponentially to come up with a site specific tectonic that the architecture embodies. To create a conceptual problem in which the design of the building became a solution for the connection between these layers.
