FACADE INTERFACE

FACADE INTERFACE
Within the past two decades, there has been a proliferation of ubiquitous computing and surveillance technology. This has produced a convenience of communication, along with a convenience of surveillance, and architecture has done nothing to adapt to these changes we face. Architecture has the ability of engaging theses changes by embracing these systems of physical non physical networks of power and control. This project intensifies, magnifies, and fuses the complementary modes of virtual and digital communication by utilizing various modes of surveillance technology. As an apparatus of architectural communication, and tactical urbanistic intervention, it is a new filter for privacy and publicity. interjecting architecture into the discourse of power and control in the digital age.
This project investigates the functioning of an architectural media facade as social interface which enables new urban interactions between public and private space, interior and exterior. It is an additive architectural prosthetic whose functions and meanings are a multiplicity of heuristic and technological embedding. With the potential to be installed on practically any building, this architecture is a system of exchange which manifests these aspects of our society in built form. Architecture acts as a part of a larger network of the city which is composed of various forms of distribution and control. It is an urban mechanism of human interaction within a radicalized technogenic milieu full of digital signals and systems. It is installed as an apparatus to the architecture, but is installed as a tactical urbanistic intervention for the public realm, plugging into the network of the city and then acting upon that network. It blurs various dichotomous relationships such as truth and fiction, interior and exterior, public and private, physical and virtual, corporation and government, individual and collective. in a traditional sense, but goes further by facilitating an undeniable questioning of power and control.
